PROJECT SPOTLIGHT

Project 1 - Hardscape, Outdoor Lighting

Newark – This custom patio creates an outdoor living space that is separated from the rest of the back yard by a double-sided wall manufactured by EP Henry and installed by us. The steps are made from the same material with low-voltage light fixtures tucked under the step treads on two sides. The surrounding walls and twin columns also incorporate the same fixtures (made by Integral) into the cap stones to provide an inconspicuous source of light to make the space usable beyond the daylight hours. The pavers are arranged in an “I” pattern created by using a mixture of 6x6 inch and 6x9 inch pavers with a soldier course (border coarse) of 6x9 inch pavers. As always, we gave careful consideration to the equipment being used so there was no damage to the manicured lawn area.

Project 2 - Hardscape, Landscape, Drainage

Middletown This front stoop / walkway and rear patio are made up of tumbled products manufactured by EP Henry to produce a slightly less formal look. Two different color selections (harvest & dakota blends) were blended to better accent the existing colors on the house. The front stoop concrete is in tact and simply overlaid with the pavers and bull-nose coping around the edges. The vertical surfaces of the concrete are faced with veneers cut from a matching wall stone.

The homeowner wanted a little more space along the driveway, so a three foot wide walkway extension reaches down along the driveway to the existing concrete sidewalk. The landscape bed was extended down along the length of the walkway and additional shrubs and perennials were installed in the new bed area. A downspout was addressed by installing a drainage line from the downspout running under the new walkway and exits through a green pop-up emitter in the lawn area.

The rear patio uses the same materials and incorporates a small retaining wall to address the sloping side of the patio. The shape of the patio is intended to accent the spiral staircase and soften the hard lines of the deck above.
